Warrington Collegiate and Manchester United Soccer Schools launch a BTEC football excellence and coaching programme

In a unique partnership with Warrington Collegiate, Manchester United Soccer Schools will be incorporating its coaching curriculum alongside a BTEC football excellence course. Building on Group photo with Denis Irwin, Manchester United Soccer Schools staff and Warrington Collegiate Sports Studentsthe huge success of the Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) programmes across the UK, China, India and the UAE and the development of coaches within these projects, a two-year BTEC course has been designed which will give students the skills they need to coach young players in the UK and around the world.

The course aimed at 16+ year olds, starts in September and is based  at Warrington Collegiate’s new ‘state of the art’ facilities  within the new £30million Orford Park Project, a sports, leisure, health and education centre. It will help students prepare, manage, deliver and evaluate the MUSS coaching programme for participants of all ages and abilities. Work experience with Manchester United Soccer Schools will be available for the best students and it is hoped that the new Warrington Collegiate course will also produce some strong candidates to compete for coaching positions at MUSS. Future courses are planned within other colleges across the UK and Ireland from September 2013.

Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill said,

“This unique partnership with Warrington Collegiate will mean students can be assured they will get first class teaching, based on the coaching methods employed by some of the best people in the game. Our work at grass-roots level within the community is expanding. This means that we need more excellent coaches to work in the UK and on other exciting projects around the world. Our hope is that Warrington Collegiate will be able to supply some of these people.”

The world’s most successful club-endorsed coaching programme delivers the world’s largest residential training program here in the UK, and as well as operating year-round programmes out of permanent facilities in Mumbai and Abu Dhabi, also regularly sends teams of coaches throughout the world to deliver courses.

The MUSS coaching curriculum is muss 1based on a continuation of the training techniques of the Manchester United  First Team and Academy  which provide the fun and challenging coaching experiences for young players of all abilities.

Paul Hafren, Principal of Warrington Collegiate highlighted the importance of the association, saying,

“We’re proud and delighted to be working in close association with Manchester United Soccer Schools. There are a huge number of benefits for Warrington Collegiate to work closely with such an excellent football club. This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in Warrington and surrounding areas who are interested in the wider aspects of the game and we look forward to seeing these young coaches develop and progress.  Both organisations are striving for excellence in all they do and this is a strong foundation for a successful outcome for all involved in this exciting new venture.”

The course was launched on Thursday 7th June at Warrington Collegiate attended by Manchester United legend Denis Irwin. The former full back who made 296 Premier League appearances for United said,

“This is going to be a great course and a fantastic opportunity for anyone lucky enough to be selected for a place. I know how important a good coach is. They can be inspirational and get the very best out of their players. This course will not only provide an opportunity for students to further their education, they will also have the platform to obtain new skills and enhance their coaching techniques and skills within practical working environments.
