Passion and enthusiasm for the ‘beautiful game’ at Warrington Collegiate was clearly evident as staff and students turned out to cheer their favourite team in the Tutor versus Students charity football match in aid of Macmillan cancer support. The event was organised by Level 3 Travel and Tourism students after an inspirational talk from Nicola Williams, Ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support who came to college to tell her story and outline the tremendous support she received from the charity when she needed them most.
19 year old Travel student, Jen Wills, from Latchford says, “We were really touched by Nicola’s story and decided to raise funds and awareness of everything that Macmillan Cancer Support do for people.”
17 year old Travel and Tourism student, Sarah Murphy, from Penketh, adds, “We decided to stage a football match as we thought it would be a really popular event, especially with all the excitement at the moment surrounding the European Championships.”
30 year old Nicola Williams explains, “It’s really great that the students have chosen to support Macmillan with this football match. Macmillan has helped both me and my family since my diagnosis eighteen months ago. I would like to say a huge thank you to them for raising awareness of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Despite fierce competition from the tutors’ team the students won the match with a magnificent score of 6 goals to 3. The winning team received the trophy from Nicola and did a victory lap to celebrate their win.
19 year old, Aviations Operations student, Erina Ijichi, from Penketh, came to cheer on the student team says, “ It was a great game for a great cause. It was a fantastic game to watch and we had great fun on the side-lines supporting the students as well the tutors
Travel and Tourism Lecturer at Warrington Collegiate, Charlotte Collins, says, “It was a wonderful day, the students and tutors played a very exciting game with lots of goals. We have raised a lot of interest as well as money and donations are still coming in. I’m so proud of the students and I can’t thank the college enough for all their support for such a worthy cause.”
