Painting & Decorating - Level 1 DIPLOMA
Is the course for me?
Careers in the decorating industry range from a multi skilled painter and decorator, including special effect and wall papering skills, to Sign Writer, Interior Designers, Owner Managers, Estimators or Contracts Managers to name a few. So if you aspire to enter into one of these careers then there is no better place to start than with this course.
The Diploma is awarded by "City & Guilds and Construction Skills" who jointly form the Construction Awards Alliance (CAA). The Level 1 Diploma has been designed to prepare you to enter the Painting & Decorating Industry and has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.
The programme will provide you with excellent skills and the confidence to carry out safe working practices in Painting and Decorating. You will also have gained a good knowledge of quantities, and be able to interpret and create working drawings.
What will I learn?

You will be expected to show competence, which involves the application of knowledge and skills in a significant range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of contexts.The activities at Level 1 provide a goodstarting point, enabling you to learn a variety of new knowledge and skills in the performance of a range of varied work activities, most of which may be routine or predictable.
The contents of your programme are:
Health & Safety.
Using Information and Communicating.
Knowledge of Building.
Erect & Dismatle Access Equipment (Scaffolding)
Prepare surfaces for decoration
Apply paint systems by brush and roller

How will I be assessed?
Your progress will be continually assessed and you will be provided with detailed feedback in order to help you to develop your skills. Your progress will be evaluated through a combination of Practical Assessments, Job Related Multiple Choice Assessments at the end of each unit and External test that are on-line computer based examinations. Will I complete work placements? The College is committed to ensuring that allstudents benefit from the opportunity to undertake work placement whilst at College and we will support you to obtain a placement in a relevant vocational setting.
It is our intention to try to place Students with local employers. The placements would usually last 1 week, and compliment your College programme. Warrington Collegiate have developed strong links with National and local employers, and some work placements have led to employment / Apprenticeship opportunities. Are trips and residentials organised during the course? Educational visits are a useful part of any programme. We look favourably on a variety of visits, all of which enhance the learning process
Are there any links with industry? The college is continually developing and reinforcing links with industry to promote work placement opportunities. A variety of guest speakers from industry are invited to speak to students during the course of the year.
Industry links are also through the work placement programme, and the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board)
What could I study next?
On successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma, you may progress to a Level 2 Diploma or, subject to gaining appropriate employment, onto an Apprenticeship.
Are there any additional costs? All tools will be provided at Level 1, but as you progress you will be encouraged to buy some basic tools to use on the course. Additionally you will need Safety Boots and a bib and brace painters overall.
Also, Ruler / Protractor / Rubber / Pens & Pencils / Lined Paper & File / Basic Calculator (not mobile phone) / Set Squares
